When it comes to high-impact hair colors, nothing beats red. Whether entirely subtle and soft or totally bold and vibrant, red hair colors are attention-grabbing and awesome. If you’ve ever thought about going red, now’s certainly the time. The color is hotter than ever and completely on-trend. Best of all, anyone can become a redhead and look great. All it takes is finding the right shade for your complexion and style. Luckily, we can help with that. So, if you’re ready to grab some attention and turn some heads, here are the hottest red hair color ideas to try today.

Some are natural redheads like Madelaine Petsch, Jessica Chastain and Debra Messing , and some… not-so-natural. For example, did you know that many of your favorite and most iconic celebrity redheads, like Emma Stone, Amy Adams, and Sophie Turner are all actually naturally blonde? Despite being known for their fiery strands, all of these redheaded celebs have been secretly dyeing their real hair for years, after realizing how much they suited being a redhead.

Over the summer, bold shades of red and blonde exploded, but for winter we are seeing more low-maintenance shades are starting to take center stage again. However, low effort doesn’t mean boring, and for autumns hair colors, there’s a bit more happening than your typical sunny blondes and balayage brunettes. As the weather gets chillier, hair is about to get a lot warmer, and be prepared for red to be the shade of the season. Some general advice: Softer peach and cinnamon look great on fair skin, deep violets and cranberries complement deep skin, and rubies and coppers look incredible on any skin color.

For our segment on the Suncoast View in January, we have chosen two models that are in the copper family.  Both were blondes for years and took the plunge this year.

If you’re not a natural redhead, like Lola White, you can fake it with Ginger shades. The key to getting a natural look is layering different red tones. “The layering technique features a primary tone surrounded by two other colors that are cohesive.  “The combination creates a perfect balance of depth and brightness with eye-catching vibrancy that can grow out naturally. It gives a very real red—almost as if you were born with it.”

Ginger red hair is perfect for ladies who prefer a natural-looking red hue that’s just a touch bold. Slightly hotter than your typical ginger, the color is a medium red-brown tone with a hint of spice. The warm shade is ideal for those with fair skin.

For just a hint of red, ask your stylist to apply a ginger gloss over your usual color.  Pale neutral skin tones will suit bright auburn, as this color has a balance of both cool and warm tones. For fair to medium skin tones with a cool undertone, a mix of strawberry blonde, copper, and ginger tones will best compliment the skin, like Ashlee Smith did.

Strawberry locks look particularly beautiful on ladies with light skin with pink undertones. The hue is a natural and warm shade of red with plenty of life.

A neutral copper color is a mixture of copper and neutral tones.  So you don’t have that orange feel when you step out in the sun—just a rich, silky warm color. To get this color, ask your colorist for a copper base, with a mixture of very subtle neutral highlights and lowlights.
